Hi,

Nice to meet you! My name is Randy and I'm an independent advisor.

The error happens because the new Outlook for Windows only supports Microsoft, Gmail, Yahoo, and a few others, so many 3rd-party accounts won’t work there. To fix this, switch to the classic Outlook (installed with Microsoft 365 apps) where you can add any email using IMAP or POP settings. You can find it in your Start menu as "Outlook (classic)," or from the new Outlook’s settings gear choose "Switch to Classic Outlook." Once in classic Outlook, add your account with the correct server settings and it should work. do you know the type of 3rd-party email you’re trying to add (for example, Gmail, Yahoo, or a custom domain?

Kind regards,
