Issue:

On my desktop PC, I was unable to log into my Microsoft Hotmail account using Edge. The password field flickered and wouldn’t accept typing or pasting. The issue worsened over time, suggesting a driver-level fault.

Symptoms:

  • Login screen loads, but password box flickers and blocks input
  • No keyboard or mouse input accepted
  • Issue isolated to desktop; laptop login works fine
  • Affects Microsoft Edge (latest build)

Troubleshooting Steps Taken:

  • Ran sfc /scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  • Reset Edge settings, disabled extensions
  • Deleted Edge’s user data folder
  • Changed graphics settings to force high-performance GPU usage
  • Disabled hardware acceleration
  • Verified no failing hardware (RAM, SSD, GPU all stable)

Resolution:

  • Booted into Safe Mode
  • Used Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to fully remove NVIDIA drivers
  • Disconnected from internet to prevent auto-install
  • Reinstalled WHQL-certified NVIDIA driver 475.14 for GeForce GTX 760
  • Rebooted and tested login—issue resolved immediately

Conclusion:

Corrupted graphics driver stack was interfering with browser-based input rendering. Reinstalling the correct driver restored full functionality.

System Info:

  • OS: Windows 10 x64
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760
  • Driver: 475.14 WHQL
  • Browser: Microsoft Edge (latest build)

Note:

If you're seeing flickering login boxes or blocked input in Edge, don’t overlook your GPU drivers—even if everything else seems fine.
