Recently, I visited my Azure Payment Methods page. I do not see the default payment method shown. I cannot delete my default payment method. What do I do? I am not going to post a screenshot of what I am seeing in my payment methods page. I have a Microsoft Entra ID Free billing subscription. I have an Azure for Students subscription.

If Azure Billing shows a "default payment method" but you cannot remove it, it usually means:

    • The payment method is tied to your account profile (Microsoft Account or AAD tenant), not to the free Entra ID subscription.
    • Azure will not let you delete the last payment method on file if there is any other active billable subscription associated with the account.
    1. Confirm whether you actually have any other active Azure subscriptions besides Entra ID Free.
      • Go to Azure Portal -> Subscriptions.
    2. If you see only "Microsoft Entra ID Free" -> there is no need for a payment method, and the "default" you are seeing is not actively used.
    3. If you see another subscription (for example, Pay-As-You-Go or trial), you must either:
      • Cancel that subscription (after exporting what you need), or
      • Add a new payment method, make it default, then delete the old one.
