Azure virtual Desktop with Windows app screen settings issue.

Experiencing with AVD Personal desktop screen issue.

Despite setting the display configuration to Single Display in the Windows application, the changes are not being reflected in the AVD session. This inconsistency suggests a potential issue with the Windows application itself.

If host pool (multi- persistent) properties are configured to support multi and the Windows App preference Single. Result: it only opens single even if you configure settings to use all screens in the Windows App.

If we set the host pool settings for single, it might work once to single screen, but if you want to go back to use all screens it is ignoring it.

The Remote Desktop application is working as expected. It matches the configuration on the host pool properties all the time if you flip single/multi in the app it opens as such.

    Hi Richa Nagrath

Thanks for sharing your issue with the Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) Windows app screen settings.

This is a known limitation where the Windows App does not consistently apply single or multi-display preferences for personal desktops, even when the host pool is configured to support multiple displays. In contrast, the Remote Desktop client reliably respects these settings, dynamically adjusting based on the configuration selected in the app.

    1. Ensure your host pool display settings align with your expected display mode (single or multi-display) in the Azure Portal.
    2. In the Windows app, disabling the “Fit session to window” option often prevents forced use of all monitors when a single display is preferred.
    3. Checking and adjusting RDP properties related to display and resolution can also help User's image Reference: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-desktop/customize-rdp-properties?tabs=portal
    4. Make sure you are using the latest version of the AVD client.

Hi, remove all RDP display properties that force behavior from the host pool (use multimon, span monitors, selectedmonitors, screen mode id); if you need to force something, just use multimon:i:1 for multi-monitor or use multimon:i:0 (and no span) for single; completely log off the AVD session (not just disconnect) and then reconnect; in Windows App, remove and re-add the workspace or reset the app to clear the cache; update Windows App and AVD agent/side-by-side on the VM; on personal desktops, any user preferences may persist, so logoff+clean cache is essential: this will restore the “Single/All displays” toggle in Windows App to respect the settings.
