Questions About Implementing Microsoft Intune with Microsoft 365 Business Premium

Hello,

We are planning to implement Microsoft Intune in our organization to manage user accounts and company devices. Our users will access company computers using their Office 365 accounts, and we understand that these accounts need to be subscribed to the Microsoft 365 Business Premium plan to use Intune.

I have a few questions regarding the setup:

  1. Do we need a separate Intune plan, or is Intune fully included in the Microsoft 365 Business Premium subscription?
  2. Can we manage devices running Windows Home, or do we need to upgrade them to Windows Pro or Enterprise for full Intune functionality?
  3. If an upgrade is required, is there a way to upgrade from Windows Home to Pro without reformatting the computer or losing data?
  4. For the admin account managing Intune and other services, is Microsoft 365 Business Premium sufficient, or should we consider a higher-tier plan?

Any guidance or best practices would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

    Dear Jenel Gomez,

Microsoft Intune is fully included with the Microsoft 365 Business Premium subscription—no separate Intune plan is required. However, for full device management capabilities, Windows Pro or Enterprise editions are recommended. Devices running Windows Home cannot be enrolled in Intune MDM and must be upgraded to Windows Pro. Fortunately, this upgrade can be performed without reformatting or losing data by purchasing a valid Windows Pro license and applying it through Settings > System > Activation.

For administrative tasks, Microsoft 365 Business Premium is sufficient to manage Intune and related services. If your organization requires advanced security, compliance, or analytics features, you may consider Microsoft 365 E3 or E5 plans.

We recommend reviewing Microsoft’s official Intune setup guide for best practices on enrollment, policy configuration, and app deployment.

If my answer is useful for you, please vote for it.

    Best regards,

    Quinnie Quoc.
