I'm in a supported region for Anthropic models, but they're not showing up on my Azure Databricks workspace? I've done some searching and it seems the models are gated, so I submitted a support ticket to Databricks who simply said:

|Hi,

Thank you for reaching out to Databricks Support!

According to our records, the account is an Azure account; hence, we request you to contact Azure support first and Databricks will be involved in case required.

which isn't exactly very helpful... How exactly do I gain permission to use the Claude model family?

    hi,

the claude models on azure databricks are indeed gated. this means even if you are in a supported region, your specific subscription or workspace might not be enabled for it yet. access is often controlled by a feature flag that microsoft manages, not databricks.

the databricks support team is technically correct, but their response is not helpful. you do need to contact azure support first because they control the enablement for your azure subscription.

here is exactly what to do. go to the azure portal and open a new support request. for the problem type, choose something like 'technical' -> 'databricks' -> 'model access and deployment'. in the description, be very clear.

"i am trying to access the anthropic claude models in azure databricks. my workspace is in a supported region, but the models are not visible. i have already confirmed with databricks that this is an azure side enablement issue. please check if my subscription needs to be allow listed for this feature."

this points them directly at the problem. the azure support team can then check the backend and flip the necessary switch to enable the models for your subscription.

once they do that, the models should magically appear in your databricks workspace model serving ui.

hope this gets you access soon. those claude models are powerful, and the wait will be worth it.

    Best regards,

    Alex
