    Hi,

Nice to meet you! I'm Randy, an Independent Advisor.

That error (0x00000012) usually happens because of a driver mismatch or the print spooler getting stuck, so the best fix is to restart the Print Spooler service on both PCs to clear any glitches, then make sure both host and client use the exact same printer driver (download it directly from the manufacturer’s site if needed). Instead of letting Windows auto-detect the printer, add it manually with the full network path which avoids discovery issues, and finally double-check that File and Printer Sharing is turned on and the firewall isn’t blocking the connection. This way, you’re clearing out spooler problems, aligning drivers, and ensuring network sharing works properly.

Just to narrow it down a bit:

Which printer model are you trying to share?

Does the same issue happen if you connect the printer directly to the Windows 8/10/11 PC via USB and then install it, or only when sharing over the network?

Have you tried downloading the universal printer driver from the manufacturer’s site?

    Kind regards,

    Hi,

Thank you for clarifying. Since the usual fixes didn’t work you can try these, nable File and Printer Sharing on the host and make sure the client has SMB 1.0/CIFS support if it’s an older Windows version (like Win 8). Then, on the client, add the printer manually using a local port pointing to the network path (e.g., \\HostPCName\PrinterName) and install the driver when prompted. Also, check that the user account on the client has permission to access the shared printer, or temporarily give “Everyone” full access. Using Epson’s Universal Printer Driver can help when version differences prevent the regular driver from connecting. This approach clears authentication and network quirks that usually might trigger the connection problem.

    Kind regards,
