Why is my Intel Core i5-7300U CPU 2.6 GHz disqualifying me from upgrading to Win 11

I have a laptop running a Intel Core i5-7300U CPU 2.6 GHz processor and it passed all of the other Win 11 system requirements to upgrade from Win 10 to Win 11. Why is the PC Health app telling me my device does not qualify for the upgrade to Win 11? Everything that I read says this processor is compatible. Thanks!

So I think here’s the key point:

=> Your Intel Core i5-7300U is a 7th-generation (Kaby Lake) processor.

But Microsoft officially supports only 8th-generation Intel CPUs and newer (with a few exceptions like some high-end Xeon and Surface device CPUs). Based on that’s why the PC Health Check app tells you the device isn’t eligible, even though it meets RAM, TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, storage, and all the other checks.

And the confusion?

  • Some articles and forums list “minimum requirements” (64-bit CPU, 2 cores, 1 GHz, etc.) without specifying the approved CPU list. By that definition, your i5-7300U looks fine.
  • But Microsoft enforces a hard block on unsupported CPUs for Windows 11 upgrades via Windows Update.

But I have some options for you :

1. Stay on Windows 10

  • Still supported with updates until October 14, 2025.
  • You’ll continue to get security fixes until then.

2. Bypass the CPU check and install Windows 11 manually

  • Microsoft allows this, but with a warning: your PC might not receive all updates, and stability is not guaranteed.
  • This usually involves using the Media Creation Tool / ISO and applying a registry tweak to skip CPU verification.

3. Upgrade the hardware

  • To remain in the officially supported path for Windows 11, you’d need a system with an 8th gen Intel CPU or newer.
