Microsoft authenticator not generating code

Question

Hi So i made a huge mistake. I downloaded authenticator app but instead of using QR code to link my microsoft account I did manual sign in on authenticator app. Now the account is there on authenticator app but there is no one time password or code windows popping up. Also my account doesn't have a remove option on authenticator app . I can't go to my security info on microsoft as it says to use code on authenticator app but there is no notification or code generational authenticator app. I also tried every way to turn off 2 step verification but in vain as it still wants authenticator app which is not working. I really need help ... my whole study career is at stake . Kindly provide a solution. Also I don't have any other verification method added.
