Caught in a security loop

When I try ad access any feature in edge I am prompted to "sign in", I give my current password, and it asks me to authenticate the password on the authenticator. I do this and it asks me to verify the action on the authenticator, but the authenticator does not bring up an action to authenticate, or if it does the system never recognizes it. If I select that there is a problem it starts this process over by asking m to change the password I just changed, eliminating all previous passwords as viable. I could run out of passwords in the English language within an hour if I followed this system. This security glitch is rendering everything you provide useless, which in fairness a lot of it was getting pretty close to that state anyways.

Fundamentally I was getting a recursive loop where in order to sign in to any Microsoft software I needed to change my password, which then led to verification checks which in turn asked me to change my password, which required further verification checks. It has been resolved despite the best attempt at help I could get from what was apparently copilot attempting to masquerade as a human being- or perhaps a human being out of their depths using AI to fill in the writing before referring me to "experts" which were just more tools. Do any actual people still work for Microsoft?
