Azure Local - Failover Cluster Validation undocumented warning

Can someone shed some light on below Cluster Validation Warning ?

There is zero documentation around this. Can't even establish what this resource does.

Thank you for sharing the detailed screenshot.

As it states from the screenshot that Cluster-Aware Updating resources: CAUCSC-Anmm and CAUCSC-AnmmResource) are in an “Offline” state. This indicates the CAU clustered role is not active. As a result, the self-updating functionality is unavailable until these resources are brought online.

Listing some general reason as the cause for it:

Resource not brought online yet: The CAU role might have been created but never started (for example, if configured but scheduled to run later, or created in an off state). A newly added cluster role can remain offline until an initial “Bring Online” action is performed.

Manually disabled CAU : If an admin ran Disable-CauClusterRole, the CAU role is taken offline to suspend updating. In this case, the fix is simply to re-enable it. Sample command:
Enable-CauClusterRole -ClusterName "CONTOSO-FC1" -Force

Hi Ankit,

The link provided and the statement refer to a regular windows server cluster, not specifically to Azure Local. That's the part that is unclear to me.

There are some other validation tests that throw a warning but that's expected for Azure Local (for example SMB Signing warning, IP addresses not being statically assigned etc. ).

The validation script ran on azure local doesn't seem to be azure local specific - it's the same script that would be run on a regular windows server cluster. And the two have different requirements.

Hello Pn,

I have clarified this with the Azure Local engineering team.

Yes, the CAU resources are expected to be offline when not running an update. Also, those are just validation warnings rather than failures – warnings are more of a “hey just so you know, this might not be what you expected…” kind of thing.
