is possible to set up global navigation from term store?

is possible to set up global navigation on SharePoint site ( below ribbon) from term store administration?
If yes, how it can be possible? Please give me some example on how we can proceed with this. Thank u.

and one more question, in how many ways we can set up global navigation other than term store , JS and CSS files?

1.Global navigation will not display in your attached screenshot in the team site. You should go to Site settings -> Navigation -> Global navigation to set up global navigation.
2.I suggest you create a new term set then apply the new term set to a new site collection, check if it works. Here're steps:
(1)Go to SharePoint admin center -> More features -> Term store -> Set your account as Term Store Administrators ->Save the change.

(2)Select the Term store service application -> Right click -> New Group -> Set your account as Group Managers -> Save the change.

(3)Select the group -> Right click -> New Term Set -> Select the new term set -> Intended use -> Click "Available for Tagging", "Use this Term Set for Site Navigation" and "Use this Term Set for Faceted Navigation" -> Save the change.

(4)Select the new term set -> Create Term -> Select the new term -> Navigation -> Enter the URL for the term -> Save the change.

(5)Go to a site collection -> Site settings -> Navigation -> Set Global Navigation as Managed Navigation -> Select term store in the Managed Navigation: Term Set section -> Save the change.

Hi Emily Du,

I followed your latest instructions as it is, looks like it is working, however page not found is popping up when I click on term1 from ribbon.
What is expected outcome here? is it page not found? why even though I followed correctly every time it is showing page not found? am I doing some thing wrong fundamentally?

Whether you provide the link for the term as following picture shows?

You could provide the term with "https://www.google.com" URL to test. After setting, please provide the screenshot for me.

You put the mouse hover over the "Term1" term, you will see the URL displays in the bottom left of the page. If it shows 404 error again, please provide the screenshot with URL displays in the bottom left of the page for me.

One of the pictures you uploaded is broken, please upload again.

You could go to Site contents -> Return to classic SharePoint -> Then click Term1 in the upper left corner.

Please make sure that the URL is correct with no extra spaces, you use simpler URL such as https://www.google.com to test.

After returning to classic , test URL google is working. However when I entered term URL ( till Term1) as suggested. still seeing page not found even in classic view.

Https://tenant.sharepoint.com/sites/MMS/Term1 is a wrong URL, this URL does not point to an existing page, so it reports a 404 error.

You should provide the term with a existing page URL, then return to classic, click term.

I did not get you what is existing page URL, can u please give some example in my case which existing URL I should give?

Till MMS it is site collection URL and then what I should give?

Such as a site collection URL.

In my tenant, a site collection named emilystorage, https://tenant.sharepoint.com/sites/emilystorage is the site collection URL.

One doubt:

Yes, after giving site collection URL under navigation from Term area in SP admin centre, it is poining to site collection URL now when we click on term1 from ribbon on site collection, then what is the use of this?

We can directly browse site collection URL right? After clicking on Term1 anyway it is going to site collection URL only...

2nd Doubt:

And do we need to give always site collection under term --> navigation from SP admin?

1.Term set navigation is also a kind of navigation, as a navigation, it act as a guide. It can be set not only as a site collection URL, but also as a library URL, etc.

2.Except for SharePoint admin center, you could go to a site collection with site administrator permission -> site settings -> Term store management under Site Administration.

Based on your description, I understand that you want to set up global navigation in the Term Store Management Tool. Here're steps:

Go to SharePoint admin center -> More features -> Term store -> Set Term Store Administrators.

Hi Emily Du,

Thank you for the continuous support.
After adding term store admin, it is giving an option to create Group and I created Group with Name "Global Navigation" and then Term set with Name "1" and child as "a" , you can see in the attached screenshot.

However I am not seeing it is reflecting in the Global Navigation part from site settings like yours. Please help .

1.In the search box, enter "Global navigation".

2.Click Find button.

3.Select the "Global navigation" term set. After selected, the "Global navigation" term set will display a yellow background.

4.Then save the setting.

"Global navigation" is the group name, you should search term store name. In your SharePoint Online, you should search "1" or "2".

I selected term store, I saved and made it ok, but now how can I use it?
how can I see as a global navigation, what I see only as below, what is the exact use of it?

There're two types term sets.

Managed metadata service application term set can be used in the all site collections.

Site collection term set by default can be used in one site collection. If you want to site collection term set be used in other site collection, select the site collection group, enter other site collection URL in the Site Collection Access section.

I can see now as per the global navigation. PFA screenshot Capture and cap1. is it working right for me? however why I am seeing page not found error? Please help

and second question I am not seeing option to add site collection group. PFA. Please help further.

1.You should set URL for the term. Go to SharePoint admin center -> More features -> Term store -> Select the term ("a" in your SharePoint) -> Navigation -> Provide link for the term. After that, when you click the term, it will direct to the link you set before.

2.Go to one site collection -> Site settings -> Term store management under Site Administration -> Then you could manage site collection term set.

You could enter URL you want manually, not necessarily through "Browser". The URL can be whatever you want.

1.Apologies as I rushed writing the above and introduced confusion. Even if there are two types of term set, both types of term set can only be used on the global navigation of one site collection, it cannot be used on the global navigation of two site collections at the same time.

2.After you have change the URL, please remember to save the change. Then go to the site content page, you put the mouse hover over the "1" term, you will see the URL display in the bottom left of the page.

Still for me it is not working , look like I messed up everything, can u give me steps from scratch with simple example so that I try in same way. and also I am not finding global navigation option from settings which supposed be visible .PFA
I activated the sharepoint server publishing feature from site collection features. still the option is not there.
