cannot activate windows 11 pro

After the last Windows security patch I got message that my Windows cannot be activated, because I'm running a Pro version with Home product key. I purchased the Pro license from an official store, but I'm getting error message that the key is not valid. Microsoft helpline was of course totally useless (only AI, offering a standard troubleshooting); any idea how to solve it? Thank you, Tomas

    Hi Tomas,

This usually happens after a Windows update when it mismatches the edition. Since you bought a Pro key but it’s showing as Home, try this:

Check your edition (Win + R ? winver). If it says Home, that’s the issue.

    • Go to Settings > System > Activation > Change product key and enter your Pro key again.
    • If it refuses, first use Microsoft’s generic Pro key:
    VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T

    • That will switch Windows back to Pro. Then reboot and enter your purchased key.
    • If still stuck, run the Activation Troubleshooter or reinstall using a Pro ISO.
