Error deleting repository from ACR

I would like to delete a repository from an ACR. I tried from the portal and using az cli, but it fails with a pretty generic error. Can someone else identifying the problem and deleting the repository:

a generic failure like that when deleting an ACR repository usually points to a backend lock or a permissions issue that the UI isn't detailing.

since you're a microsoft employee, you have access to more powerful internal tools for debugging this. the first thing to check is the acr backend logs to see the specific reason for the failure. you can use internal diagnostics that aren't available in the public portal.

if the logs don't show a clear cause, the next step is to use the az acr purge command as a workaround. this command is designed for bulk deletion and can sometimes force through a delete that the standard single-repository delete can't handle. you can target just that one repository.

the command would look something like this.

az acr run --cmd "acr purge --filter 'microsoft/dynamics-nav-base:.*' --ago 0d" --registry dynamicssmb /dev/null

this uses an acr task to run a purge command that deletes all manifests and tags in that repository. it's a more forceful method and often succeeds where the regular delete fails.

if that still doesn't work, your best path is to use an internal support channel to contact the ACR product team directly. they can check the backend state of the repository and remove any orphaned locks that are preventing the deletion.

try the az acr purge command as a workaround. if it fails, use internal channels to get the ACR team to force the deletion on their end.

Please note that I am NOT trying to delete the ACR. I want to delete only one empty repository, and keep the rest.

I have AcrDelete, Owner and Contributor access.

Hello Eleonora Bardelli

We have worked with the Engineering team, and it turned out that there was a product issue which caused the deletion failure.

Now the Engineering team has cleaned it up from backend, kindly retry the deletion and let us know if it works now!
