cannot open Outlook

Question

I cannot open Outlook. I get an error message: 'outlook is having trouble opening. how about starting with essentials only'. there are two options, yes and no. I enter yes but nothing happens. this all started when I activated a duplicate file removal option in the CCleaner app I have been running on this computer for years. this was a new version of the app that was just setting up and I may have chosen an option I should have avoided. I have deleted the app, and run the Windows update repair download but not results. I can still open Outlook by going to the Microsoft website and logging on with my Microsoft password but this just gives me access to the app as a tab within the ISP. I cannot get the app to open on its own from the task bar

Hi Michael,

Thank you for posting your problem, I am here to help you today. Possible reason you are getting this error is due to corrupted data files, outdated software, conflicting add-ins, or a corrupted profile.

To fix this method try this steps:

Press the Windows key + R to open the Windows Run dialog. In the Open box, type Outlook /safe, then choose OK. In the Choose Profiles dialog box, accept the default setting of Outlook and choose OK. Check if this will work.

If not try this next method:

Quick repair Microsoft 365

Close all Microsoft 365 apps and Click start button go to Settings. Go to Apps and open Installed Apps. Search for Microsoft 365 then click 3 dot and choose Modify. Select Quick repair. Once completed restart device and check again Outlook if will launch properly.
