having problems registering device

I am having trouble registering my new Asus laptop. It is mine (not an organization's), I have Windows 365 on it but when I try to register it, it states "We did not recognize this serial number."

The support site states "Windows 10/11 devices will be automatically added to your devices list when you sign in. Surface devices can also be added manually by following these steps:" But it is not automatically added and when I follow the steps again and again Windows Devices state "We did not recognize this serial number."

I have even tried changing the computer's name which did not help.

Does anyone have any suggestions or explanation for this?

Thanks,

Hello,

You cannot add a non-Microsoft branded device by using serial number. The serial number method is only for Microsoft's branded device, such as Surface laptop/tablet, Xbox, etc. Since yours is Asus, this approach will not work.

So, typically, if you sign into your Microsoft account in Windows, that should automatically add your device to your account. Lately, I am seeing a lot of delays showing up in your account. But it can be comsmetic.

Go to Windows Settings > Accounts > Your info, on this page, do you see your Microsoft account listed?

If you go to Settings > Accounts > Linked Device, is your device listed there?
