We had initially created Azure VM using Biztalk Standard 2016 image from marketplace. We are paying BizTalk license as PAYG.

Later, customer procured BT 2016 enterprise license from software assurance. We have performed in place upgrade in the Azure VM and all applications are working fine.

Only problem we have is about billing. we are still billed for BizTalk Standard 2016 license in Azure as PAYG.

Question is how to remove the billing information? I have tried many options and look like recreating VM is the only option.

@Manjunath Patelappa I did some research and found the below information and have confirmed same with billing team as well:

    As mentioned here

If you are an end-customer using BizTalk Server, you can:

    • Obtain a BizTalk Server image from the Azure Virtual Machine marketplace and pay the per-minute rate of BizTalk Server or
    • Install or upload your own BizTalk Server image using the licence mobility benefits under Software Assurance.

If you are a Service Provider with a signed Services Provider License Agreement (SPLA) you can:

    • Obtain a BizTalk Server image from the Azure Virtual Machine marketplace and pay the per-minute rate of BizTalk Server.

Now as mentioned by you have procured Biztalk from marketplace so licensing won't change in that case. Which means you should create their own image and then using it on Azure to make use of Azure Hybrid Benefit. Only way is redeploying using the on-prem image with biztalk license.

The above information is as per best of my knowledge and since I can see you have added tag for Biztalk already maybe some expert from their team can also add to the above use case.

Also for licensing regarding part you can reach out to Support as well to check possibility if there is any way to cancel the current one for billing. If you do not have a plan do let me know I can help you with one time free Support as well.

    Hope it helps!!!

Issues of mine is basically to migrate existing machines which are in state 1 to state 2...Also during migration dont want to impact my applications in live.

State 1 -- Obtain a BizTalk Server image from the Azure Virtual Machine marketplace and pay the per-minute rate of BizTalk Server or

State 2 -- Install or upload your own BizTalk Server image using the licence mobility benefits under Software Assurance.

Prmanhas-MSFT's answer is correct. This is not possible. If you have a server in Azure running BizTalk Server that was created from a Market Place image of BizTalk Server, it is licensed via PAYG and not able to be converted to Software Assurance licensing.

This PAYG licensing is embedded in the installation media included in the Market Place image.

To use software assurance, you would need to use your own installation media to install BizTalk Server on a Windows Server vm in Azure. Then during installation, use the Software Assurance license key in the installation.

So, in order to "change" from PAYG to SA, a new server would need to be stood up entirely.
