Updates causing inaccessible Excel workbooks

Hi - new to this forum. I'm trying to find out if anyone else is having issues with updates coming in, and then suddenly I'm unable to open any of my excel workbooks. If I try to open them, it just grays out, sits there, and then locks up and I have to go to the task manager and close the program.

My only solution so far, is to uninstall the updates and pause them, so I can keep working. It's very frustrating, and I haven't been able to speak with anyone at Microsoft. Any answers? Thank you.

Hi! Carla. Thanks for the details. You're definitely not alone with this. It's been reported.

But it could also be caused by hardware graphics acceleration, have you tried disabling that?

Here's how:

If you can’t open Excel normally:

Start it in Safe Mode:
Press Windows + R, then type:

excel /safe
and hit Enter. Then go to File → Options → Advanced and disable acceleration from there.

Best regards,

Kimberly
