Cannot create production only checkpoint on linux based VMs running on HyperV

We have 3 linux VMs running on a HyperV server. We can't seem to back them up with Veeam. To further troubleshoot, I tried to take a production checkpoint of all of them within HyperV and they all fail with the following error:

An error occurred while attempting to checkpoint the selected virtual machines

Checkpoint operation failed

Production checkpoints cannot be created

If I change it to standard checkpoint, the checkpoint works fine. However, I think Veeam needs it to be a production checkpoint. Any help would be greatly appreciated. All of the other VMs are backing up just fine and create production only checkpoints. However, they are all windows VMs.

Production checkpoints require interaction with VSS inside the guest operation system. Linux doesn't have VSS. Check with your backup software's vendor to see if they have a way to support Linux guests on Hyper-V.
