Updates to my windows 11 were working until a couple of weeks ago. Since then I continually get a notice that the installation failed. The latest notice is this:

2025-10 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5066835) (26100.6899) (2)

Failed to install on ‎10/‎28/‎2025 - 0x800706be

I have rebooted and and did a repair but I still cannot install any updates.

Any advice?????

    Hi Jeff,

Thank you for responding, I am here to help you today. The error code 0x800706be is a Windows error code that is shown whenever a system file is having an issue.

Try this steps to fix this problem:

There are several methods you can try to fix this issue:

Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter: Press Start then click Settings (Gear icon) > Update and Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters > Under Get Up and Running, select Windows Update > Run the troubleshooter.

Make sure Windows Update and Background Intelligent Transfer services are available and running: Click Start, type services.msc in the Start Search text area, and then click services.msc in the programs list. Double-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service. If the Startup status lists Stopped, click Start and then click OK. If the status is Running, right-click then select Restart. Double-click Windows Update. If the Startup status lists Stopped, click Start and then click OK. If the status is Running, right-click then select Restart.

Run SFC and DISM to check for any system errors and corrupted files.
