The Microsoft documentation said that there would be a migration path provided in the portal for updating public IP addresses from the Basic SKU to Standard in the Azure portal that was being rolled out during September and October. I understood that is what going to be rolled out slowly.

I'm still not seeing the migration path in the Azure portal. When should I expect to see this?

Hello @Tom,

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Platform. Thank you for reaching out & hope you are doing well.

I understand your question about migrating Basic SKU public IP addresses for Azure VPN Gateway. Microsoft is slowly rolling out the migration path in the Azure portal to upgrade from Basic to Standard SKU. If you don’t see the "Migrate" tab yet, it means this feature isn’t available in your region.

The rollout started in August 2025 for active-passive gateways and is expected to be broadly available for all gateway types and regions by mid to late November 2025. You have until around March 2026 to complete this migration before Basic SKU IPs are fully deprecated.

If you need to migrate urgently, you can use the PowerShell commands from the official docs, but keep in mind they only work once the migration feature is enabled in your region.

Please ensure your gateway subnet has enough free IPs (at least 3) before starting migration. For the latest updates, check the VPN Gateway “What’s New” page.

Hi Tom,

Latest is for it to be available mid-February 2026. The current deprecation deadline is end of March 2026. Of course this is subject to change.
