can't do Win 11 update

I cannot install 2025-10 cumulative update version 25H2. I tried to run the win Troubleshooter but didn't receive any instructions. Rebooted machine and tried to do installation. Installed FAILED, error code (0x800f0983).

I managed (but I don't know how) to establish a Live Chat with someone in Tech Support. I have a Case ID of 7090587864. However, in the process of handing off permission to control my PC, the connection was LOST and I am unable to "chat" with tech.

Question: How do I reestablish this connection?

Hello Robert Lamers, thanks for posting this in our community.

Error 0x800f0983 typically points to a Component-Based Servicing (CBS) issue, which is often caused by corrupted system files or broken update dependencies.

To begin troubleshooting, open Command Prompt as Administrator and run the following commands one by one:

    1. sfc /scannow
    2. DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
    3. DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

After that, try the update again by going to Settings > Windows Update and clicking Retry. If it fails again, pause updates, wait about 10 seconds, then unpause and retry.

You can also run the Windows Update troubleshooter by going to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters, then selecting Windows Update.

    Kind regards,

    John Oli

To reestablish your connection with tech support after the lost chat, you can try the following steps:

    1. Visit the Microsoft Support website: Go to the official Microsoft Support page where you can find options for live chat or other support methods.
    2. Use the Case ID: When you initiate a new chat or contact support, mention your Case ID (7090587864) to help the support team retrieve your previous session and assist you more efficiently.
    3. Check for Contact Options: Look for options like phone support or additional chat options if the live chat is not available.
    4. Use the Feedback Hub: If you continue to experience issues, consider using the Feedback Hub app to report your problem directly to Microsoft.

These steps should help you reconnect with tech support and resolve your update issues.
