Activation from backups

Hi
if i was to set up a clean copy of the windows server on a new server and restore a backup of the old server which was activated would it reactivate after restoring the backup

Yes, it will activate as it is within your Hardware, only if you change more than one hardware component then it might not reactivate as it will be considered as a New pc.

Most likely as long as the hardware didn't change.

that's the thing it's going to be the same server but instead, I'm swapping that server running windows server 2019 and installing Windows server 2019 Hyper-V then ill create a Windows server 2019 Standard VM to restore the backup of the original server

In this case the activation comes from the host licensing. On the guest do

slmgr /ipk xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx
slmgr /ato

using the host product key.

Just an update sorted hyper v ans it seems to have activated all of my windows server 2019 vms thank you for the help yesterday!
