Managing bookmarks, browsing history, and downloads in Edge on Windows 11

I'm trying to clean up my MS Edge favorites, but items I delete keep reappearing. I've tried turning on and off sync. I've even gone in and deleted all my other MS Windows devices, but they still keep reappearing. I even have two favorites that reappear duplicated numerous times in the same location. Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this? Thanks

Hi David Osborne, I can imagine how exhausting it must be to keep trying different solutions only to see the same favorites reappear in Edge again and again. It’s especially frustrating when you’ve already gone the extra mile removing devices disabling sync and cleaning things manually yet the issue persists.
To resolve the issue of deleted favorites reappearing in Microsoft Edge without adjusting sync settings or profile management. you can start by clearing the Edge cache through the Privacy search and services section in Settings selecting Cached images and files under Clear browsing data and clicking Clear now next delete the Bookmarks file directly by navigating to C:\Users<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default in File Explorer removing the Bookmarks file and restarting Edge to regenerate a clean version then check for external services or extensions such as bookmark managers iCloud, OneDrive, or the Bing app that may be restoring favorites even with sync disabled and finally if the issue persists consider resetting Edge by going to Settings selecting Reset settings and choosing Restore settings to their default values which clears most configurations while keeping your history and passwords.
Have you ever imported bookmarks from another browser or account or used a backup tool that might be restoring old favorites automatically?

To stop items that you delete from your Microsoft Edge Favorites from reappearing, you should ensure that the sync settings are properly configured. Here are some steps you can take:
edge://settings/profiles/sync and verify that the sync settings for favorites are enabled. You can try toggling the sync off and then back on to refresh the connection. If these steps do not resolve the issue, consider reaching out to Microsoft support for further assistance.
