I bought a Dell laptop with windows 11 from Amazon. I turned it on and completed the auto setup of the device. After setup is finished. I login to find out I am not the admin of the device. There was a previous admin account already on said computer. Giving no control or access to my device. How is that possible and how can I fix this issue?

As you mentioned for auto setup, have you setup your account during this.

If you still have no access, I recommend to perform clean install once.

Hi there! My name is David. It’s a pleasure to help you today.

Regarding your question as an additional step, you can contact Amazon or the seller to verify if they have the credentials for the administrator account on the laptop.

It sounds like your Dell laptop may have been set up with a built-in Administrator account or a previous user account that was not properly removed during the setup process. This can happen if the device was previously owned or if it was a display model. Here are a few steps you can take to regain access:

    1. Check for Other Accounts: Try logging in with any other accounts that might have been created during the initial setup. Sometimes, devices come with a default account that may have administrative privileges.
    2. Use Safe Mode: Boot your laptop into Safe Mode. This can sometimes allow you to access the built-in Administrator account if it is enabled. To do this, restart your laptop and repeatedly press the F8 key (or Shift + F8) before Windows starts loading.
    3. Reset the Device: If you cannot access any administrative accounts, you may need to reset the device to factory settings. This will erase all data on the device, so ensure you back up any important files if possible. You can do this by going to Settings > System > Recovery > Reset this PC.
    4. Contact Dell Support: If the above steps do not resolve the issue, consider reaching out to Dell's customer support for assistance. They may provide specific instructions or help you reset the device.
    5. Reinstall Windows: As a last resort, you can create a bootable USB drive with Windows 11 installation media and perform a clean installation of the operating system. This will also remove any existing accounts and allow you to set up a new admin account.

Make sure to follow the appropriate steps carefully to regain control of your device.
