    Hello Jojit,

Thank you for posting question on Microsoft Windows Forum.

Based on your query of having trouble on scratching the covered product key rendering some portion of the product key to be unreadable.

The following are some suggestions to address the issue.

    1.Check the Packaging and Documentation.

    • Occasionally the product key is printed not only under the scratch-off label but also inside the box, on a Certificate of Authenticity (COA), or in your purchase receipt/email if you bought it digitally.

    2.Look in Your Microsoft Account.

    • If you purchased Windows Server 2025 directly from Microsoft or linked it to your account during installation, the product key or digital license may be stored in your Microsoft account under Services & subscriptions.

    3.Contact Your Vendor/Reseller.

    • If you bought a physical copy from a store, explain the situation. Retailers often have procedures for damaged product keys and may be able to issue a replacement or verify your purchase.
      • Provide Proof of Purchase: Have your sales receipt, invoice, or any other proof of purchase ready.
      • Request Assistance: Since you bought the license only a week ago, the vendor may have a record of the key or can help initiate a replacement process through their partner channel (like the Microsoft Volume Licensing Service Center or OEM partner channel).

    4.Contact Microsoft Support.

    • Reaching out Microsoft which can help recover or reissue a product key if you provide proof of purchase.
      • Provide Details: Explain that your product key is physically scratched and partially unreadable.
      • Offer Documentation: Be ready to send them photos of the damaged key card/sticker and your proof of purchase (receipt/invoice). Microsoft support agents are sometimes able to look up or verify the key based on the associated product and your purchase documentation.
    • You can start here: https://support.microsoft.com/contactus

If you have a deep scratch that has made part of your Windows Server product key unreadable, there are a few steps you can take:

    1. Check Documentation: Look for any documentation that came with your purchase. Sometimes, the product key is also available in digital format or on the receipt.
    2. Contact Support: Reach out to Microsoft Support or the vendor from whom you purchased the Windows Server. They may be able to assist you in recovering your product key or provide a replacement.
    3. Use Recovery Tools: If your server is already installed and activated, you might be able to retrieve the product key using software tools designed for this purpose, such as a key finder tool.
    4. Consider Reinstallation: If you cannot recover the product key and need to reinstall, you may need to purchase a new license.

It's important to keep your product key in a safe place to avoid such issues in the future.
