Accounts missing from Authenticator

I opened up the Authenticator app (iOS) to try to login to some sites I hadn’t used in awhile, only to notice the 2fa codes for these sites were gone! The strange part is, most of my codes are still there, so it’s not like a bug wiped the data from the app.

How can I fix this? I also notice that the app recently mentioned it saves to iCloud now, so is this related?

Hi,

Did you set up an alternative method for authenticating, not just using the authenticator app? If you did or have the recovery keys you can remove and add back the MFA for your account.

It will generate a new QR code that can be used to setup MFA again.

So from what I can see, I'd have to remove the app entirely to restore the data from icoud, risking losing all my accounts? That doesn't seem ideal. It seems like my best option is to remove my 2fa from the account and add them again.

Why did this even happen? We're always being told that we need to use 2fa, but companies can't hold up their end of the bargain and make sure we're always able to use said 2fa.
