Choosing SBS version, 2019 or 365

Hi,

We have an old version of SBS and need to migrate. One of the key features we rely on is remote desktop. Whilst Microsoft 365 is recommended, I am under the impression this is an entirely cloud based, so I am not sure how we can have a RD Gateway on my premises if I choose this option. I assume the RD Gateway is part of 2019 Essentials.
There may be ways to achieve what we want by using a VPN. I've always thought that option was rather labour intensive for both the admin and the user. Does anyone want to share their opinion on the best way forward?

Thanks,
Dermot

    Hi,

Maybe you could refer to this link:
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/56332/choosing-sbs-version-2019-or-365.html

And since server essentials 2019 has been removed "server essentials experience"role and "RDgateway" role,so if you still want to use either role, I recommend you to purchase server 2016 essentials product. If we only can purchase server essential 2019 ,we can try to contact Microsoft Licensing Activation Centers support to downgrade it to server 2016 essentials.

    Hope this can help you!
