After the installation of MS 365, all MS files do not open up. We get an error message. I can open the MS Excel in the numbers APP. The operating system on my MAC is macOS Tahoe 26.1. What do we have to do in order to open the MS files with MS Excel?

    Hi David,

This is usually just a file association issue on macOS where Numbers is set as the default app for Excel files. Set Microsoft Excel as the default app for .xlsx so double click opens them in Excel.

    Close Excel and Numbers.

In Finder, locate one of your Excel files, for example a file with the (.xlsx) extension. Right click the file and choose Get Info. In the Open with section, pick Microsoft Excel. Click Change All and confirm. Double click the file again. It should now open in Excel.

If you also use older .xls or .csv files, repeat the same Get Info steps on one .xls and one .csv file so those types also default to Excel.

If you still see an error after doing this, please tell me the exact error text that appears when you try to open the file, and confirm whether File > Open inside Excel can open the same file. That will let me give you the next step.

If you are experiencing issues opening Microsoft files after installing MS 365 on your Mac, you might want to try the following steps:

    1. Check for Updates: Ensure that your version of MS 365 is up to date. Sometimes, updates can resolve compatibility issues with macOS.
    2. Repair Office: You can try to repair the Office installation. This can be done by uninstalling and then reinstalling MS 365.
    3. File Format Issues: If the files are not opening, check if the file formats are compatible with the version of Excel you have installed. Sometimes, files created in newer versions may not open in older versions.
    4. Check File Associations: Ensure that the file types are associated with the correct application. You can do this by right-clicking on the file, selecting "Get Info," and checking the "Open with" section to ensure it is set to Microsoft Excel.
    5. Reset Preferences: You can reset Excel preferences by removing the preferences file. To do this, close Excel, go to the Library folder, find the preferences file for Excel, and delete it.
    6. Reinstall Office: If the problem persists, consider uninstalling and reinstalling MS 365 completely. This can help resolve any installation issues that may have occurred.

If you continue to encounter errors, please provide the specific error message you are receiving for further assistance.
