The error you’re seeing usually means the command syntax isn’t quite right, Windows File Recovery is very strict about spaces and parameters.
When a file is deleted from the Recycle Bin, it’s marked as free space, so you’ll need to use the Extensive mode to scan deeper.
Here’s what you can try:
Open Windows File Recovery as Administrator, then run a command like winfr C: D: /extensive /n *.docx where C: is the drive the file was on and D: is a different drive to save recovered files.
Make sure the destination drive isn’t the same as the source.
If you remember part of the file name, you can add it like report.docx instead of *.docx.
Quick question: do you know which drive the document was originally stored on, and do you have another drive or USB to save the recovered files?
Regards,
Aron
