Can’t get Authenticator to work

Ever since I got a new phone I can’t get Authenicator to work.
I’m trying to get into a website and it’s asking for an authentication code, so I open the Authenication app and there’s no code. The page just shows “Microsoft Extra ID and my email address. If I click on that box I get a 2nd page.
The 2nd page has a top section that says: “Ways to sign in to Microsoft apps on this device - Connected account - Use this account to sign in to Microsoft apps on this device” and there’s nothing to click.
Below that is “OTHER WAYS TO SIGN IN” - there are two ways to pick from: “Create a passkey” and “Set up 2-step verification.”
I don’t know what to do at this point. Can you help?
