my web app failed to load content why?

I'm getting an error when trying to publish my web app for the first time. It says the content failed to load. Also I set the location to west coast but it is showing Canada for the location. I need this changed.

The “Content failed to load” error usually appears when Azure App Service or Static Web Apps cannot correctly read or access the files you deployed. Several common issues can trigger this:
- Incorrect deployment method or missing build artifacts If the deployment process doesn’t send the correct output files, the app cannot load. This often happens when the build output folder in Visual Studio or your CI/CD pipeline doesn’t match what the App Service expects. For Static Web Apps, misconfigured
app_locationoroutput_locationin the GitHub workflow can also prevent the app from loading. - Locked files during publish In .NET applications, Web Deploy may fail if DLLs or other files are currently locked by the running application. When this happens, the new content cannot overwrite the old files, causing the app to fail to load. Using an
app_offline.htmfile or restarting the App Service before deployment usually resolves this. - Unsupported deployment option Some deployment methods only work with specific package types. For example, MSBuild-generated packages require Web Deploy, while Zip Deploy cannot process them. Using the wrong deployment method can lead to incomplete or failed deployments.
- Insufficient App Service Plan resources If your App Service Plan is too small or under heavy load, deployments may time out or fail. Scaling up the plan or moving to a higher tier often fixes this issue.
How to Fix It
- Ensure you are using the deployment method appropriate for your app type (example: Web Deploy for MSBuild packages, Zip Deploy for typical zipped applications).
- For Static Web Apps, verify that
app_locationandoutput_locationare correctly set in your GitHub Actions workflow. - Restart the app or enable the AppOffline feature before publishing to avoid file-locking problems.
- Review the Kudu deployment logs, as they usually give detailed insights into what went wrong.
When Azure shows your App Service region as Canada instead of a West Coast region, it usually means Azure has mapped your request to a different physical datacenter. This can happen even if you selected something that sounds like “West Coast” during setup. Azure sometimes does this because:
- Your subscription or resource type is restricted to specific geographies. Certain tenants, especially those with compliance or data-residency requirements, cannot deploy to all public regions. In such cases, Azure will route the deployment to an allowed region, such as Canada Central or Canada East.
- The SKU or service tier you selected is not available in the West Coast regions. Some App Service plans, pricing tiers, or features are only offered in certain regions. If the region you chose doesn’t support the SKU, Azure automatically places the resource in the nearest available region.
How to Fix or Correct the Region
- First, confirm the actual region by going to Azure Portal > App Service > Overview > Region.
- If the region is not what you intended, note that Azure does not support changing the region of an existing App Service.
- To use the correct region such as West US or West US 2, you will need to:
- Create a new App Service in the desired region.
- Deploy your application to the new resource.
- Migrate settings or custom domains as needed.
