I was upgrading old hardware so I could go from windows 7 to 11.

I bought all the necessary hardware required including a new copy of Windows 11. In trying to reveal product key the tag got damaged.

I need a new product key to activate windows 11. I have the old Windows 7 product key and have a receipt for the purchase of Windows 11. I can also provide JPEGs of the exterior Windows 11 envelope and the inside CD/DVD sleeve with the damaged sticker if that helps.

If you've damaged the product key sticker for your Windows 11 installation, here are some steps you can take to obtain a new product key:

    1. Microsoft Account: If you purchased Windows 11 digitally, check your Microsoft account. Your product key may be available in your order history.
    2. Contact Microsoft Support: Since you have a receipt for your Windows 11 purchase, reach out to Microsoft Support. They can verify your purchase and may provide you with a new product key.
    3. Retailer Assistance: If you bought a physical copy, contact the retailer where you purchased Windows 11. They may have a process for replacing lost product keys, especially if you can provide proof of purchase.
    4. Windows 7 Key: Note that the Windows 7 product key cannot be used to activate Windows 11; you will need a specific Windows 11 product key.
    5. Documentation: Providing images of the damaged sticker and the packaging may assist when you contact support or the retailer.

Once you obtain a new product key, ensure to keep it in a secure location to avoid future issues.

I already checked with the retailer, and they said I would have to talk with Microsoft or purchase another copy of Windows 11. Before I spend another $130.00, I feel Windows should be able to provide a replacement product key. They should also improve their packaging of their product key.

    Hello

If the retailer bounced you off to Microsoft, it means they are not legitimate sellers. Legitimate sellers would get support from Microsoft for replacement key in this scenario. This is why it is not always a good idea to buy it from third party.

Contact Microsoft, explain it, they might still help you when you have all of the purchase proof. Open the "Get Help" app on your computer (just search for it in the Start menu). or go to https://support.microsoft.com/contactus, Type "Billing" and press Enter. On the next screen, click "Contact support" at the bottom of the page, then choose "Windows" > "Manage my subscription". You’ll then see the option to chat with a Microsoft support agent.
