Need to fix "Authentication Failure" in Edge

Edge 142 and 143 were just updated on my laptop. Microsoft Edge is up to date.

I am currently on Version 143.0.3650.66 (Official build) (64-bit)

I cannot login into my Microsoft Account from Edge. (I can from Chrome. The password is the same).

I cannot get into websites which require Microsoft authentication of passwords to access stored passwords in Edge.

I am getting an "Authentication Failure" when I enter my correct Microsoft password. This failure in turn does not let me access the password entry field. It blocks me from manually entering the password. I cannot go further to complete any of my work in Edge. I have to switch over to Chrome.

I do have my computer configured to allow pages to load in IE mode. This is a personal laptop that is used for business. It was purchased under my business account.

I did delete the cash, cookies, etc. I updated the version of Edge I was using in case this bug was fixed.

How do I restore the old version of Microsoft Edge? Will this fix this error?

I do not have this problem in Chrome.

Hopefully someone has the answer.

Also...How do I get my email links to open in Chrome and not Edge?

To address the "Authentication Failure" issue in Microsoft Edge, you can try the following troubleshooting steps:

    1. Check Identity Issues: Ensure that you are signed into Edge with a valid Microsoft account. Sometimes, authentication failures can stem from identity issues rather than sync issues.
    2. Reset Sync: If you are experiencing sync issues, you can reset the sync settings. Go to Settings > Profiles > Sync and select Reset sync. This can sometimes resolve authentication problems.
    3. Clear Browsing Data: Although you mentioned you have already cleared cache and cookies, ensure that you have selected all relevant options, including cached images and files, cookies, and other site data.
    4. Check Security Zones: Since you mentioned using IE mode, be aware that issues can arise when navigating between different security zones. If your application is redirected across zones, it may clear session storage, leading to authentication problems. Ensure that the web app and Azure AD endpoint are in the same security zone.
    5. Try a Different Profile: If possible, create a new profile in Edge and see if the issue persists. Sometimes, profile-specific settings can cause problems.
    6. Update Edge: Ensure that your Edge is fully updated. You mentioned you are on version 143.0.3650.66, which is the latest version. However, keep an eye on any upcoming updates that might address this issue.
    7. Reinstall Edge: If none of the above steps work, you might consider reinstalling Edge. This can help restore any corrupted files or settings.

Regarding your question about restoring an old version of Microsoft Edge, it's generally not recommended to downgrade to an older version due to security vulnerabilities and compatibility issues. If the problem persists after trying the above steps, you may want to consider reaching out to Microsoft Support for further assistance.

To set Chrome as your default browser for email links, go to your computer's settings and look for the default apps section. From there, you can set Chrome as the default web browser.
