When I open Microsoft Edge, the profile shows my wife's account and tries to log me into it. I want to remove her account from Edge. Her account does not appear anywhere in my Windows 11 account profiles. It only appears in Edge. I want to remove her account from my system. All the help sites for Microsoft only shows how to delete a profile from Edge. I want to delete her account from Edge, but none of your support pages explains how to delete it. I've tried signing out of her account, then deleting the profile, but when creating a new profile, her account still appears. How do I get it removed?

    Hi Mike Jenkins,

Good day. I'm Jhun an independent advisor. In regards with your issue, Edge stores Microsoft accounts separately from Windows, in a hidden “Work/School & Family” identity cache and in the MSA identity list inside Edge.

Follow these steps in order for the actual method to remove your wife's account that keeps re-appearing in you MS Edge.

    A. Remove the account from Edge's Profiles, email and accounts in Edge and not in Windows.

    1. Open Microsoft Edge
    2. Go to: edge://settings/profiles
    3. Scroll down and look for “Accounts like Email, sync, and more”
    4. If your wife's account appears there > Remove it. This is separate from Windows settings and is usually the cause.

    B. Clear Edge’s saved Microsoft account identities.

    1. In the Edge address bar, type: edge://settings/profiles/microsoftAccount or sometimes: edge://settings/profiles/manage.
    2. If you see your wife’s Microsoft account listed > click Remove / Sign out everywhere.
    3. If the page redirects, try: edge://settings/profiles/connectedAccounts.

    C. Remove “Work or School” identity cached inside Edge. Edge keeps Azure AD identities even if you never added it to Windows.

    1. Open Edge.
    2. Go to: edge://settings/profiles.
    3. On Your Profile > click Remove.
    4. If it also asks you to remove Work/School account > Click "Yes" too.

    D. Clear cached Microsoft Sign-in tokens.

    1. Open Edge
    2. Go to: edge://settings/privacy
    3. Under Clear browsing data → Click Choose what to clear

    Select:

    Cookies and other site data

    Cached images and files

    Passwords (if you want)

    Site permissions

    1. Click Clear now. This will remove the hidden login tokens Edge keeps on using to auto login into your wife's account.

    E. Remove her login from Windows Web Account Manager. Even if it is not in Windows settings, Windows may still store the identity.

    1. Open Settings > Accounts > Email & accounts
    2. Scroll to Accounts used by other apps
    3. If her account appears > Remove. This affects Edge directly because Edge uses Windows’ WAM system.

    F. After all the steps are done, restart your Edge and create a new profile.

    I hope this helps.

    Regards,
    Jhun
