Hello,

My outgoing email on my iPhone mail account (hotmail) will not send. I am still receiving email. I went online to outlook.com and updated my password. When I try to input that password in hotmail/mail account on my iPhone it generates an error message that it is not the correct password but does not give me an option to update...keeps rejecting the new email I updated in outlook.com.

It sounds like you're experiencing an issue with your email account on your iPhone after changing your password on Outlook.com. This can happen due to a limitation with the Exchange ActiveSync protocol when using basic authentication. Here are some steps you can take to resolve the issue:

    1. Check Email Profile Settings: Ensure that your email profile on the iPhone is set up correctly. Sometimes, you may need to remove the account and add it again with the new password.
    2. Enable OAuth: If your email solution supports it, consider enabling Open Authentication (OAuth) in the email profile. This can help with password prompts after a change. However, make sure that your email service supports OAuth before enabling it.
    3. Use Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant: If the problem persists, you can use the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant tool to diagnose and fix issues with sending and receiving emails. This tool can help identify connectivity issues and guide you through the resolution process.

If you continue to face difficulties, you may want to reach out to Microsoft support for further assistance.

Hello Hudson Bartley, thanks for posting this in our community.

First, log in to Outlook.com on a browser using the new password to make sure it’s correct. If you can sign in successfully, the password is valid.

The iPhone Mail app sometimes caches credentials and doesn’t allow updating them directly, so the best approach is to remove and re-add the account. Go to Settings > Mail > Accounts, select your Hotmail/Outlook account, and delete it. Restart your iPhone, then add the account again by going to Settings > Mail > Accounts > Add Account > Outlook.com and sign in with your updated password.

Make sure your iPhone is running the latest iOS version by going to Settings > General > Software Update.

After re-adding the account, try sending a test email. If it still doesn’t work, consider using the Outlook app for iOS, which handles Microsoft accounts more reliably than the native Mail app.

    Kind regards,

    John Oli
