How to resolve error “Failed to retrieve monthly usage data” on Usage + Charges screen when I select a month to drill down? In addition to the error message there are no other options IE Charge by Service or Charge by Hierarchy displayed.

Hello Maestas, Lillian, It seems like you're running into the "Failed to retrieve monthly usage data" error when trying to drill down into the Usage + Charges section. This can be frustrating, but there are a couple of things to check that might help resolve the issue.

First, remember that cost and usage data usually becomes available in Cost Management + Billing within 8 to 24 hours, so if you're accessing data shortly after your billing cycle ends, the data may just not have had enough time to update. Here’s what you can try:

    1. Wait for Data Refresh: If the month you are selecting has just ended, the estimated charges might still be updating. It's a good practice to wait a maximum of 72 hours after the billing period ends for all data to be finalized.
    2. Check Service Availability: Different Azure services report usage at different intervals. Ensure that you are checking for services that typically take longer to update.
    3. Clear Cache and Cookies: Sometimes, issues can arise from cached data. Try clearing your browser’s cache or accessing the Azure portal from a private browsing window.
    4. Permissions and Subscription Type: Ensure that you have the necessary permissions to view all relevant usage data. Certain subscription types may also affect the visibility of the data.
    5. Check for Outages or Service Issues: Occasionally, there might be ongoing issues with Azure itself. You can check the Azure status page to see if there are any reported outages or maintenance activities.
    6. Use the API: If you're comfortable with APIs, you might consider querying the data via the Azure Usage Details API to see if the data is available there.

If these steps don’t resolve the issue, please let me know, and we can dive deeper or gather more details.

    Follow-Up Questions:

    1. What subscription type are you using (e.g., Pay-as-you-go, Enterprise Agreement)?
    2. Can you confirm whether you have the necessary permissions to view all usage data?
    3. When was the billing cycle period you were trying to access?
    4. Have you checked if there are any ongoing service outages on Azure's status page?

Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes!

To resolve the error "Failed to retrieve monthly usage data" on the Usage + Charges screen, you can try the following steps:

    1. Check Permissions: Ensure that you have the necessary permissions to access the usage data. You need to be an Enterprise Administrator, Account Owner, or Department Admin with the view charges policy enabled.
    2. Refresh the Page: Sometimes, simply refreshing the page can resolve temporary issues.
    3. Select Different Month: Try selecting a different month to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is specific to the month you initially selected.
    4. Clear Cache: Clear your browser's cache and cookies, as this can sometimes resolve loading issues.
    5. Check Azure Service Status: Visit the Azure status page to see if there are any ongoing issues with the Azure services that might be affecting the retrieval of usage data.
    6. Contact Support: If none of the above steps work, consider creating an Azure support request for further assistance.

If the options "Charge by Service" or "Charge by Hierarchy" are not displayed, it may also indicate a permissions issue or a temporary glitch in the Azure portal.
