Azure wants 6 digits code but Authenticator generates 8 digits

Hi, I have been accessing the Azure Admin Portal using my personal Microsoft account with password authentication. However, starting today, the portal is asking me to “Enter code” for MFA. I installed the Microsoft Authenticator app, but it generates an 8-digit code, while Azure is expecting a 6-digit code.

Because of this mismatch, I am completely locked out of portal.azure.com.

I attempted to open a support case, but all the links redirect me back to the Azure sign-in page, which I cannot access.

I can still sign in to other Microsoft services (e.g., M365, Outlook) without any issues — only Azure is blocking access.

Could someone advise how I can recover access or how to contact Support for an MFA reset or unlock? Thank you.

    Hello Ranjith A,

The issue pertains to a tenant lockout, where no other global admin in the tenant has the necessary permissions to login and make changes in your tenant.

To resolve this, we have engaged our Data Protection team through a support ticket. They will reach out to you via email or phone to help restore access to the tenant and assist in resolving the issue.

If the resolution was helpful, kindly take a moment to accept the answer and upvote it 👍 it as a token of appreciation.
