Yesterday, 12-10-2025, I had a question about the installation of an Avery template into MS365 Word. I subsequently was connected to Just Answer. The person, in India, worked for approximately 1 1/2 hours and declared it fixed. I opened the computer this morning and it is NOT fixed. The template in Word "crashes" when opened, I have spent time and money to no avail. Your site said all funds were refundable. I am a very unsatisfied customer. please respond

Hi Jim Moore, I completely understand how frustrating this must be spending time and money only to have the issue persist is really disappointing.

To fix the Avery template crash, first check if Word opens the template in Safe Mode this shows if add ins are the problem. If it does remove and reinstall the Avery add in reset Word’s Normal.dotm and Startup folder and try using Word’s built in Avery templates. Also check your printer driver run an Online Repair and clear any Avery-related registry entries if needed. If it still fails share these steps and results when you escalate to Microsoft or Avery support.

When the Avery template crashes does Word show any error message or does it just close immediately and does the same template work on another computer or account?

    Best regards

    Lucky

It sounds like you're experiencing ongoing issues with the Avery template in Microsoft 365 Word. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem:

    1. Check for Updates: Make sure that your Microsoft 365 is up to date. Sometimes, issues are resolved with the latest updates.
      • You can verify or install the latest updates by going to the Office updates section in your application settings.
    2. Rename the Global Template: A corrupt global template can cause Word to crash. You can try renaming the global template file (Normal.dotm) to see if that resolves the issue. Here’s how to do it:
      • Close all instances of Word.
      • Search for Normal.dotm in your system (usually located in %userprofile%\appdata\roaming\microsoft\templates).
      • Right-click on it and rename it to something like "OldNormal.dotm".
      • Restart Word and check if the issue persists.
    3. Start Word in Safe Mode: You can start Word using the /a switch to disable add-ins and see if the template opens correctly:
      • Press Windows + R, type winword /a, and press Enter.
      • Try opening the template again.
    4. Check Printer Settings: Sometimes, printer settings can affect Word's performance. Ensure that your default printer is set correctly, preferably to a standard printer like Microsoft XPS Document Writer.
    5. Repair Office: If the above steps do not resolve the issue, consider repairing your Office installation through the Control Panel.

If these steps do not resolve your issue, you may need to reach out to Microsoft Support for further assistance, especially if you believe the issue is related to the installation of the Avery template.
