Yellow Exclamation Mark.....Windows Security

Running Windows 11...Home Version. Today I noticed Yellow Exclamation on the Defender Taskbar Defender shield icon. Clicking on it, it shows the mark on the Icon DEVICE SECURITY. Choices are, SIGN IN or Dismiss. I selected Sign in...I tried using my Password, Pin and the option to email mail a code....all kept showing "OPPs.... its not your fault...try again". trying again simply loops me thru the same failed attempts...showing it is not your fault try again.

Made a BIG mistake...contacted Microsoft Support Chat....agent requested remote connection...BIG Mistake. I informed agent not to take any steps without my approval. Agent decided to create a System restore point...and did so without me approving. Why a restore point when the issue was clearly a Microsoft Acct Sign in issue. As I wrote to chat agent, do not create a restore point...since this issue has nothing to do with MY PC...he did it anyway. Why haven't I learned my Lesson to stay away from tech Support....tech support for the most part is someone looking at a data base and taking steps in a List more than likely unrelated and not helpful. Again, my issue was signing into my Microsoft acct...nothing to do with the operation running of my PC...and Agent creates a restore point...than when I expressed my disappointment with his totally unnecessary action...he selected his manual Restore..my PC than went thru RESTORING YOUR PC which took over 15 mins. Guess by agent deleting his manual restored point (or I think that is what he did) my PC went back to where it was before he created his manual restore Point... Actually, I am not sure what restore point is running, my original...or his. My System restore displays:

12/13/25 Restore Operation undo

12/13/25 MS Manual

12/10/25 Automatic Restore Point System

I know with certainty I was dealing with a Microsoft tech agent....

  1. Why am I seeing the yellow Exclamation Point on DEVICE SECURITY? I can sign in with no issues to my Microsoft acct online...using my email and Password....yet trying to do so....clicking on SIGN IN under the DEVICE SECURITY fails... What is this DEVICE SECURITY???it shows I can DISMISS it. I would rather Fix it the right way...I guess by Signing in but so far no success...
  2. Also what I noticed...with System Restore...there was a Auto System Restore in the restore window...from a few days back...so my PC is\was creating an Auto restore point. However, looking a Restore Point Configuration...it SHOWED it was Disabled...and space to use ZERO. So does Windows Restore with it disabled Create a restore Point...just 1 restore randomly and therefore it can be at Disabled (what I read as this DISBALED is the default setting)? Sould I enable and select 10% space ...as I have always done so when running previous versions of windows? Is 10% enough space?

AI suggested fixes...did not fix my issue...need personal replies from someone who maybe has experienced this issue and fixed it. Again, Yellow exclamation mark on Defender...Device Security, choices are, sign in or dismiss. Tried sign in....I am\my PC is definitely signed into my Microsoft acct....when I click sign in, I tried my Password, Pin..and the Code sent from Microsoft...I get SORRY....the problem is not your it is with Microsoft...Try again. Trying again simply keeps looping thru...not your fault try again.

What is Security Devices....all other features of Defender running fine?

How do I clear this exclamation mark...I do not want to click on DISMISS if its a opetion\Feature that is suggested

The yellow exclamation mark on the Windows Defender icon typically indicates that there is an issue with your device's security settings or that some features require your attention. In your case, it seems to be related to signing into your Microsoft account for device security features. Since you can sign in online without issues, the problem may be specific to the Windows Security interface or settings on your device. You can try the following steps to resolve the issue:

    1. Restart Your Computer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary glitches.
    2. Check Windows Services: Ensure that the Windows Defender Antivirus Service is running. You can do this by typing services.msc in the Start menu, locating the service, and making sure its status is set to "Running".
    3. Update Windows: Make sure your Windows is up to date, as updates can fix bugs and improve functionality.
    4. Check for Third-party Security Software: If you have third-party antivirus software installed, it may interfere with Windows Defender. Consider disabling or uninstalling it temporarily to see if that resolves the issue.
    5. Sign In Again: Try signing in again through the Windows Security app. If it continues to fail, you may need to reset the app or check your Microsoft account settings.

Regarding System Restore, if the configuration shows that it is disabled, it means that automatic restore points may not be created regularly. However, Windows can still create restore points under certain conditions, such as during significant system changes or updates. Enabling System Restore and allocating 10% of your disk space is a common practice, and it should be sufficient for most users. This allows Windows to create restore points more reliably, helping you recover your system if needed.
