How to remove New Window in Excel 16

In MS Excel 16 (on a PC with Windows 11), on the "View" tab, and under the "Window" heading, there is a control that opens a second window. Clicking on this control created a second, duplicate, window of the same worksheet which has now become a permanent part of the worksheet. I've tried every way I know how to get rid of it, but every time I open that file, there it is again. The "Help" function in Excel has been less than helpful. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of it once and for all?

To remove the duplicate window in Excel 16 that you created using the "New Window" feature, you can follow these steps:

    1. Close the Duplicate Window: Simply close the duplicate window by clicking the "X" in the upper right corner of that window. This will not affect your original worksheet.
    2. Save Your Workbook: After closing the duplicate window, make sure to save your workbook. This should prevent the duplicate window from appearing the next time you open the file.
    3. Check for Multiple Instances: If the duplicate window keeps appearing, ensure that you are not accidentally opening multiple instances of Excel or the same workbook.
    4. Use the View Tab: If you want to manage your windows, you can go to the "View" tab and check the "Window" options. You can use the "Arrange All" option to see if there are any hidden windows that might be causing confusion.

If the issue persists after following these steps, you may want to consider checking for updates to Excel or repairing your Office installation as a last resort.
