Recently edge has been opening up on its own but only showing it self through task manager. It's causing unnecessary usage of cpu and I cannot even disable in startup apps because its not even there. Even after ending tasks, it'll eventually open again on it's own. Is there a way to fully disable Edge from Windows 11.

    1

    Open the Settings App.

Go to Accounts - Sign In Options.

Disable this setting - 'Automatically save my restartable apps and restart them when I sign back in'.

Restart (not shut down) your PC and then test if that resolved the problem.

If that did not resolve the problem.

Click the link below to download a small free utility that does not require installation.

    https://download.sysinternals.com/files/Autoruns.zip

When the file downloads, unzip it.

    Run Autoruns64 as Administrator

    A

Select the 'Logon' tab at the top of Autoruns.

Please provide a screenshot of all entries on that tab.

    B

Select the 'Scheduled Tasks' tab at the top of Autoruns.

Please provide a screenshot of all entries on that tab.

To disable Microsoft Edge from starting up automatically in Windows 11, you can try the following steps:

    1. Check Task Manager: Although you mentioned that Edge does not appear in the startup apps list, it's worth checking the Task Manager again. Right-click on the taskbar and select Task Manager. Go to the Startup tab and see if Microsoft Edge is listed there. If it is, you can disable it.
    2. Disable Background Apps: Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Background apps. Here, you can turn off the option for Microsoft Edge to run in the background.
    3. Check for Scheduled Tasks: Sometimes, Edge may be set to open through a scheduled task. Open the Task Scheduler (search for it in the Start menu) and look for any tasks related to Microsoft Edge that might be triggering it to start.
    4. Group Policy Editor (for Windows Pro users): If you have Windows 11 Pro, you can use the Group Policy Editor to prevent Edge from starting. Press Win + R, type gpedit.msc, and navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Microsoft Edge. Look for settings related to startup and disable them.
    5. Registry Editor: If you're comfortable using the Registry Editor, you can navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and check for any entries related to Microsoft Edge. If you find any, you can delete them.
    6. Uninstall Edge: If you do not need Microsoft Edge at all, you can consider uninstalling it. However, note that Edge is integrated into Windows 11, and uninstalling it completely may not be straightforward.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may want to check for any updates or consider resetting Microsoft Edge settings to default.
