Cannot replace a corrupted XL app with an uncorrupted XL app

XL seems to be corrupted. ChatGPT & complexity tell me that the issue is corruption, not my formulas (which often use the IF function for sensitivity analysis) which attempt to link from a source sheet to a destination sheet. XL seems to be reading the formula as linking to an external document, not to sheet in the same workbook.

I've uninstalled XL and reinstalled several times. But same issue recurs. Any suggestions, please?

If you're experiencing issues with a corrupted Excel application and have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling it multiple times, here are a few additional steps you can take:

    1. Repair Office: Instead of just reinstalling, try using the repair option for Microsoft Office. This can fix corrupted files without needing a complete reinstall. You can do this by going to Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a program, selecting Microsoft 365, and then choosing the Repair option.
    2. Check for Background Programs: Sometimes, other programs running in the background can interfere with Excel. Make sure to close any unnecessary applications before starting Excel.
    3. Reset Excel Preferences: Corrupted preferences can also cause issues. You can reset Excel preferences by navigating to the relevant folder in your system and deleting or moving the preferences file.
    4. Check for Add-ins: If you have many add-ins installed, one of them might be causing the issue. Try disabling all add-ins and see if that resolves the problem.
    5. Create a New User Profile: If your user account profile is corrupted, creating a new user profile can sometimes resolve these issues. Try logging in with a different user account to see if Excel works correctly there.
    6. Use Safe Mode: Start Excel in Safe Mode by holding down the Ctrl key while launching Excel. This can help determine if the issue is caused by add-ins or other settings.

If none of these steps work, you may need to consider further troubleshooting or contacting Microsoft support for assistance.

    Hello,

If the file seems to be corrupted try this method.

Use the built-in "Open and Repair" feature by going to File > Open, selecting the file, clicking the arrow next to the Open button, and choosing Repair, or Extract Data if repair fails; for more severe issues, try opening the file in a new workbook or using third-party repair tools.

If excel itself is corrupted, go to settings, then apps, within the apps list should be excel, in there find the 3 dots for extra options, and click on repair, this should get excel back to working condition.

    Hope this helps,

    JC
