Text box prints on two lines when entered only on one

This started last week. I use Microsoft as my default PDF. When I add a text box, I type it on one line. Now, on the display, it shows two lines. It doesn't matter if I expand the text box.

It sounds like the issue you are experiencing with the text box displaying text on two lines instead of one could be related to the settings of the text box itself. In many applications, including those that handle PDFs, text boxes can be configured to allow for multi-line input. Here are a few things you can check:

    1. Text Wrapping: Ensure that the text wrapping property of the text box is set correctly. If it's set to wrap, it will automatically move text to the next line when it reaches the edge of the box.
    2. Text Box Size: Although you mentioned expanding the text box, make sure that the width is sufficient to accommodate the text without wrapping. If the text box is too narrow, it will force the text onto a new line.
    3. Font Size: Sometimes, the font size can affect how text is displayed. A larger font may cause the text to wrap even if the box is wide enough.
    4. Line Height: Check if there are any settings related to line height or spacing that might cause the text to appear as if it’s on two lines.

If these settings are correct and the issue persists, it may be a bug or a recent change in the application you are using. You might want to check for updates or consult the support resources for the specific application to see if others are experiencing the same issue.

Thanks for sharing this! Try to turn OFF “Auto line break” bug (hidden setting)

This is a known Edge PDF annotation bug.

    • Open the PDF in Microsoft Edge
    • Click Add text (the T icon)
    • Before typing, click inside the text box
    • Press:
      Ctrl + Shift + X
    • Then type your text again

This forces Edge to treat the annotation as single-line instead of multi-line. If the problem persists, try these steps below.

Change the font once (resets annotation engine)

This sounds odd, but it works reliably.

    • Add a text box
    • Change the font to ANY other font
    • Click outside the text box
    • Click back in
    • Change the font back to what you want

This resets the internal text-rendering baseline that is causing the forced line break.

See if these help. If you need further assistance just let me know.

    Best regards,

    Kimberly

Thanks, that helps. Based on what you’re seeing, you’re almost certainly using Microsoft Edge’s “Add text” PDF tool, which does not expose font controls at all.

    Try this:

Edge has two different text tools, but only one behaves correctly.

    • Open your PDF (it will open in Microsoft Edge)
    • At the top toolbar, click Draw
    • Select Typewriter
    • Click once on the page
    • Type your text

✔ Text stays on one line

    ✔ Prints correctly

Important: Do not use Add text, that tool is the broken one.
