How to fix this error with rxInstallPackages

I have installed the Machine Learning services on Microsoft SQL Server 2022 (RTM-GDR) (KB5068407) - 16.0.1160.1 (X64) Oct 3 2025 18:06:58 Copyright (C) 2022 Microsoft Corporation Developer Edition (64-bit) on Windows 10 Pro 10.0 <X64> (Build 26200: ) (Hypervisor)
and when I runs this command
rxInstallPackages(pkgs = pkgs, verbose = TRUE, scope = "shared", computeContext = sqlcc)
I get this error "Error in is.null(version) || is.na(version) : 'length = 5' in coercion to 'logical(1)'"
Is there any work around for it?

Erland Sommarskog 129.1K Reputation points MVP Volunteer Moderator2025-12-16T22:26:20.56+00:00 A starting point would be to install the most recent Cumulative Update of SQL Server 2022. I don't know if that resolves the issue, but it might. Particularly, if this is on a named instance.

2025-12-17T15:07:02.45+00:00 no joy, I upgraded to SQL 2025 and it is still broken with the same error. I reckon the package is not updated correctly - I did a bit more digging and the error is coming from here :
RevoScaleR:::rxCheckPackageManagementVersion(sqlConnString)This function is calling
RevoScaleR:::rxGetPackageManagementVersion(connectionString)And in this function the problem is in this condition
if (is.null(version) || is.na(version) || length(version) == 0) { ... }Does anyone know how to log a bug for this package to be fixed for R 4.5.2?

2025-12-17T22:04:40.1+00:00 You will have to excuse me. I have have a little bit with using Python from SQL Server, but R is a very white spot for me. Do I understand it correctly, that you have installed R successfully in SQL Server, but then you try to run something to add a package, and you run into this snag? From where do you run this rxInstallPackages thing?
I ask, in case I would try to repro it.

2025-12-18T15:20:03.4366667+00:00 Yes I have installed, R machine learning services on to Developer Edition of SQL 2025, I am using a package called RevoScaleR, most of its functions work but some don't seem to have been updated to R 4.5.2,
To repo, you need to connect to SQL server using RevoScaleR, and set the compute context to be the SQL server. Then you should in theory be able to run the rxInstallPackages() command
