The envelope feature in Word displays envelope options and printing options only. It does not display the address and return address anywhere. Therefore I cannot print an envelope. I tried repairing Word using the short and loing repair schemes, but that did not work at all. I also tried the envelope feature of Google Docs, but I could not get htat to work. Please help.

It sounds like you're experiencing issues with the envelope feature in Word where the address and return address are not displaying correctly. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

    1. Check the Envelope Options: Ensure that you are using the correct options when setting up the envelope. You can access the envelope options by going to the Mailings tab and selecting Envelopes. Make sure to fill in the recipient's address and return address fields.
    2. Use the Options Method: If you are working with a mail merge, ensure that the document is the main document of the envelope mail merge. You can display the Envelope Options dialog box by using the Options method in your code if you are using automation.
    3. Repair Word Again: Since you mentioned that you already tried repairing Word, ensure that you are using both the quick and online repair options. Sometimes, a thorough repair can resolve underlying issues.
    4. Check for Updates: Make sure your Microsoft Word is up to date. Sometimes, updates can fix bugs related to features like envelopes.
    5. Try a Different Document: Create a new document and try the envelope feature again. This can help determine if the issue is document-specific.
    6. Check Printer Settings: Ensure that your printer settings are correctly configured and that the printer is functioning properly.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may want to consider reaching out to Microsoft support for further assistance.

Hi Fred Gustafson, I completely understand how frustrating this must feel you’ve tried repairs and even alternative tools yet the envelope feature still won’t show the addresses.

Add the envelope to your document then check and fix the Envelope Address and Envelope Return styles so the text is not hidden make sure it is black and readable. Confirm the envelope size and margins in Options and if the problem keeps coming back then update the Normal.dotm template so Word remembers your changes.

When you click Add to Document do you see any placeholder for the address on the envelope page or is it completely blank?

    Best regards

    Lucky

The simplest method is to create your own envelope template and use that for new envelopes. You can save envelopes as documents for addresses you use frequently. See MVP Graham Mayor's pages:

The envelopes feature should be working in your desktop application, though. How are you telling it to create an envelope? When you click on the envelope button on the Mailings tab, do you get this dialog?

If you do not see this, try an online repair of office. See https://support.office.com/article/7821d4b6-7c1d-4205-aa0e-a6b40c5bb88b. Before doing that make sure that your Office license is in your Microsoft Account under the Subscriptions tab. (If Word 2013 or earlier, make sure you have your original installation media and product key.)

If you do see that dialog, what happens when you type into the delivery or return address windows?

You can try adding to the document. What happens if you try that?
