Moving VMs from MAP to MCPP

Hello Azure VM Subscriptions and Billing experts.

As part of the MAP termination I moved to MCPP Launch Benefits.

As part of that I had to move my VMs and I did a post about that.

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/5595347/how-to-move-vms-from-map-to-mccp

Well? Something other people will have had to learn about.

I got a bill for EUR160 for VMs that are just sitting there turned off.

I thought the USD700 MCPP Azure Launch credit would be automatically applied.

It turns out that the USD700 MCPP Launch Credit can only be applied to NEW azure accounts.

What the documentation says is that I have to redeem the USD700 Credit.

And then I get an email to click on to create a new subscription.

And then I get the new subscription linked to my MCPP.

And then I move all my VMs again to the NEW Azure subscription.

If course, the obvious question is this.

"Have any of you geniuses in Azure billing and subscriptions figured out how to redeem the new MCPP USD 700 Azure Credit and some how apply that to EXISTING VMs on your MCPP subscription?"

I know the answer is very likely "No, you have to create the new subscription and you have to move your machines to the new subscription".

But I am sure you all know that I think it is worth asking because there are tens of thousands of other people (surely) who want to do the same.

Maybe some genius has figured out something I don't know about. :-)

Thank you very much for any assistance you may be able to provide me in this matter.

It will be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards

Peter Jones.

Hello Peter Jones (BIDA), We Understand that you received a bill for VMs that are turned off because the USD 700 MCPP Azure Launch credit wasn’t applied to your existing subscription. You discovered that the credit only works with a new subscription created during redemption, which means your current VMs don’t benefit from it.

You can’t use the $700 MCPP Azure Launch credit on an existing subscription. To get the credit, you have to create a new Azure subscription through your MCPP benefits and then move your virtual machines and other resources into that new subscription. There’s no way to add the credit to the subscription you already have.

It’s not great that the credit can’t be used for your existing VMs on the current MCPP subscription, but that’s how Azure has set it up. If you’ve already moved your VMs and you're still being charged for them under the old subscription, it’s probably because those resources aren’t covered by the MCPP credit on the old subscription.
