Referring to the above image. I am editing a document that has a dropped cap that isn't a dropped cap. Please explain what it is and how to get rid of it. Pleast do not tell me to Insert>Drop Cap>None because it isn't a dropped cap. It also is not a style either.

Have you tried selecting it and pressing the Delete key?

If you're certain it's not a drop cap as Word normally creates them, then we would have to see a sample document. You can upload your file to a cloud service, then post a password-free share link here so we can take a closer look.

If you open the PDF in Word, the "A" becomes a picture. You can tell if you click to select it, because Word displays the Picture Format tab on the ribbon.

In addition, if you choose to show non-printing marks (click the ¶ icon on the Home tab), you will see the anchor in the text paragraph below.

To delete the picture, select it and press Delete (or cut it with Ctrl+X).

Convert the file to a docx file and try to delete the dropped cap. Please let me know how to do it if you can.
