Request to Make Existing Alias Primary

Message: Hello Microsoft Support,

I have two aliases in my account:

<Mod remove PII> ``@outlook.com (current primary)

<Mod remove PII> ``@outlook.com (secondary)

I want to make <Mod remove PII> @outlook.com my primary alias. The account interface shows it as a secondary alias, but I cannot select it as primary.

Please update my account so that <Mod remove PII> @outlook.com becomes my primary alias.

What happens when you try to make the other address primary at https://account.live.com/names/manage? Any error messages?

To make an existing alias your primary alias in Microsoft 365, you need to follow these steps:

1. Log into the Microsoft 365 admin center.
2. Go to the Users > Active users page.
3. Select the user whose aliases you want to manage.
4. Under Aliases, select Manage username and email. Note that you won't see this option if the user doesn't have a license assigned.
5. On the Manage username and email page, find the alias you want to make primary.
6. Select the alias and choose Set as primary.
7. Save your changes.

After making this change, it may take up to 24 hours for the new primary alias to take effect. If you encounter any issues, ensure that you have the necessary permissions to make these changes or contact your administrator for assistance.
