In order for facial recognition to work, your camera needs to have the infrared feature. If it is just a regular camera, even if it is high definition, it will not support facial recognition.

Camera: Kodak Access Webcam Windows Hello Compatible (actual name of product
When I attach the camera and try to configure sign-in options Windows Hello Facial indicates it cannot find a compatible camera. I have rebooted / uninstalled and reinstalled Windows Hello Feature / Stopped and Started Biometric Service / Checked for and installed all available updates including optional ones.
As a best practice, I rebooted before each of the above was attempted.
Windows still insists it cannot find a compatible camera. Pin and fingerprint work without issue. I am stumped.
What else can I try?

2025-12-20T23:58:23.4933333+00:00 I found the answer: Even though this camera indicates it is Windows Hello Compatible, it does not meet the security requirements for Windows Hello Face. Reason, it does not support a "secure data path" required by Enhanced Sign in Security.

I found an entry in the event viewer logs under: Applications and Services / Microsoft / Windows / Biometrics / Operational. It is an "information" entry. Scroll through each "Information" entry on the general tab looking for "The Windows Biometric Service failed to configure a Biometric Unit for sensor: Facial Recognition (Windows Hello) Software Device... " Then switch to the Details page. Copy and paste that into ChatGPT or CoPilot... it will translate the exact error for you. If you are on 22H1 or older, Windows cannot use MIPI/ESS cameras. My camera, even though it markets Windows Hello Compatible, it is not 100% compatible.
